Turnip Turnip:: Is a bulbous root vegetable usually white in color. Small turnips are used for human consumption and the larger ones are for feeding livestock. The average turnip is 5-20cm in diameter. The leaves of this vegetable are sometimes harvested and eaten. There are a variety of turnips referred to as baby turnips which are harvested when small and eaten shortly after being picked. Turnips are high in Vitamin C. The greens harvested from the turnips are high in Vitamin A, C, and K.

Turnips do grow in the wild and there is a variety that is hot and similar to the mustard plant. Turnips have their place in history on shields and Jack-O-Lanterns used to be carved out of turnips.
