Avocado: The fruit comes from the avocado tree which is about 30 feet tall but can grow to be about 60 feet tall. The avocado fruit is pear-shaped with a hard skin. The skin varies in color from yellow-green to dark green to reddish purple almost black. The edible part of the fruit lays directly under the skin and is usually bright-green. There is a single seed in the middle of the fruit.

The avocado came from Mexico. Now it is grown commercially in several countries United States being one of them.

You can grow an avocado by washing the pit off and suspend it in a glass filled with water. http://faq.gardenweb.com/faq/lists/seed/2002114535011263.html
